If you want to be quick here is a percentage calculator to give you the answer. If you just want to know how it's done scroll down the page.

## How to do it yourself

It's easy enough to calculate with percentages by yourself. We will go through each calculator above in turn using an example.

**What is..?**

What is 74% of 125?

First divide 74 by 100 = 0.74

Then multiply this by 125

0.74 x 125 = 92.5

**Is what percent of..?**

325 is what percent of 856?

325 ÷ 856 = 0.3797 x 100 = 37.97

**Increase/decrease**

What is the percentage increase from 452 to 658?

658 - 452 = 206 (second number minus first number to find the difference between them.)

206 ÷ 452 = 0.4558 x 100 = 45.58% (answer divided by first number to find percentage change and multiplied by 100 to make an actual percentage.)

**Add ... percent**

This one is useful for adding sales tax etc.

What is 85 + 15%?

15 ÷ 100 = 0.15(Divide the 15% by 100 to decimalise.)

85 x (1 + 0.15) = 97.75 (add 1 to the percentage as you want the whole plus the percentage increase and then multiply by the original number)

**Minus ... percent**

This one is useful if the sales tax is included and you want to find the exclusive amount.

What is 85 - 15%?

15 ÷ 100 = 0.15(Divide the 15% by 100 to decimalise.)

85 x 0.15 = 12.75(The number multiplied by the percent.)

85 - 12.75 = 72.25 (The original number - the 15 percent.)
